C.S. Lewis - Intellectual Giant of the Twentieth Century
Introducing the ‘Mere Christinity"!
Ranked as the No. 1 Christian Book of the 20th Century!
The Undisputed Greatest Christian Classic of the 20th Century!
C. S. Lewis, a professor of English literature at Oxford University in England, was hailed by TIME as the “most influential Christian apologist of the 20th century.” He believed that “explaining” and “defending” what almost all Christians throughout history have commonly believed was “the highest and possibly the only service” he could render to his non-believing neighbors. The fruit of this service is Mere Christianity, which was selected as the “No. 1 Christian Book of the 20th Century” by Christianity Today.
[Excerpt from the text]
The point I want to make is twofold. First, every human being on this planet has a peculiar idea that they ought to behave in a certain way and cannot get rid of it. Second, despite this, they do not actually behave that way. They know the law of nature, but they break it. These two facts are the foundation for clear thinking about ourselves and the universe we live in.
‘Prudence’ means practical common sense, taking the trouble to think out what you are doing and what is likely to come of it. Nowadays, hardly anyone thinks of prudence as a virtue. Many Christians think that because Christ said we could only get into His kingdom by becoming like little children, that means it is okay to be childish. But that is a misunderstanding. What He wants is a child's heart, but a grown-up's head. It is not a requirement that we keep our ideas about God on a five-year-old level just because we are thinking about Him (for example, when praying).

I owe a great debt to Professor Lewis. ...... Until then, I had not clearly understood what it meant to be a Christian. Reading Mere Christianity, I finally learned the orthodox teachings of Christianity about God, humanity, and Jesus Christ.
